WHAT IS FEES?

(Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing)

A gold-standard swallowing assessment using a small, flexible endoscope to view the pharynx and larynx during eating and drinking.

    • Review of referral and patient history

    • Coordination with caregiver, facility, or clinician

    • Equipment preparation

    • Scope insertion and swallow visualization

    • Trials with various textures/liquids

    • Compensatory strategy testing as needed

    • Assessment of airway protection, residue, structural function

    • Real-time feedback to patient/caregiver/SLP

    • Immediate clinical impressions

    • Full written report

    • Still images and/or video clips provided as appropriate

    • Recommendations for diet, safety, and follow-up

Schedule a FEES in just a few easy steps

Establish a contract between your facility and Doorstep Dysphagia Diagnostics (DDD).

Obtain a physician’s order for the procedure (i.e., "FEES procedure for Dysphagia.").

Provide a consent form to the patient (provided by DDD).

Send an email or call to request an appointment.

Once you have completed all these steps, DDD will contact you within 24 hours and schedule a FEES appointment within 1-2 business days. On the day of the procedure, DDD will complete a detailed diagnostic report, including PO recommendations, therapeutic strategies, therapy suggestions, and potential referral recommendations. DDD will provide an invoice for billed services to your facility on the same day of service.
